IPS Vehicle Barriers First to Pass Highest Certification Tests on Both Sides of the Atlantic

Intelligent Perimeter Systems (IPS), a developer and distributor of advanced counter-terrorist vehicle barrier and traffic control systems, today announced that its Model 400 retractable bollards passed the two most stringent vehicle barrier certification tests in Europe at the Transport Research Laboratory (TRL), the UK's foremost vehicle and highways testing facility.

The Model 400 bollards, which were K12 certified by the U.S. Department of State following successful crash tests in 2004, easily passed the UK's rigorous PAS 68 criteria. "We are delighted with the test results and the prospect of helping the UK and its allies deploy world-class defense against vehicular attacks," said IPS President Mike Korodi. "Since achieving a K12 rating in the U.S., IPS has been focused on working with UK distributor partners and government authorities to optimize the performance of the Model 400 bollards with European vehicles. IPS is now positioned to provide ideal perimeter security solutions for valuable assets and infrastructure globally."

Designed to stop a 30,000-pound vehicle traveling at 50 mph, the retractable Model 400 bollards are installed underground, with the top of each post flush with the roadway. At the push of a button, the swipe of an access card, or a signal from a radio controller or satellite, the 1,400-pound bollards spring upright, reaching their full deployment height of 36 inches in 6 seconds or less in normal operation mode, and in less than one second in emergency operation mode. The bollards have self-contained hydraulic pumps and integrated battery backup, increasing their tamper resistance. A fully redundant design with no single point of failure ensures that the system works even if one barrier fails.

"IPS bollards offer the best protection in the world for assets that are targets for vehicle bombs," Korodi said. "For critical infrastructure like military facilities, embassies, airports, utility plants, court buildings, ports, bridges, tunnels, and water treatment facilities, IPS is quickly becoming the gold standard."

IPS offers the Model 400 bollards as part of a complete access control system called Intelli-Gate, which utilizes innovative technology to validate and verify the identity of people and vehicles authorized to enter or visit a secured facility. The system is comprised of a highly secure, state-of-the-art command and control annunciation system, advanced monitoring and communications technologies, Model 400 retractable bollards and other related access control components.

IPS has a global network of distributor partners, including a reciprocal agreement with UK-based APT Controls, the UK's leading provider of security and traffic management systems. Through a partnership with APT formalized in December 2006, IPS manufactures select APT products, including the Titan Road Blocker, in North America, while APT manufactures and distributes IPS products in Europe and around the world.
